2c. Retribution may be handled most effectively by carefully assessing a target’s weakness. That which is held most dear is the better target. If conflict through direct physical means is not an option, other avenues may prove just as satisfying. The moral and mental high ground may be achieved by abstaining from direct physical violence. At the very least, the enemy can be provoked and then broken. In addition, an opponent may be bled dry financially to the point of defeat. Some costs are not sustainable. All may be fair, but one should at least attempt to avoid becoming that which one despises.
