Shopping

To suggest we go shopping in response to a national crisis inspires nothing. This nothingness allows societal apathy a foothold. Culture stagnates. The end result is decadence unto civilizational nihilism.

The whole argument is just the commodification to the societal lowest common denominator. It is plain and simple brainwashing to lead these social lemmings to spend money they don't have, on things they don't need, to impress people that they don't like. The mythical reality would be to take the top 1/2% of the societal elite and take just 5% of their gross to deal with the rest of the 99 1/2% of society. This never bodes well in practice and in the end the societal elite are just the first against the wall. These sacrificial lambs are just another cog in the greater historical longing for the Nietzche induced longing for myth. Unfortunately as Weber demonstrated, God is society worshipping itself.

For it is truly telling when a society places a higher value on disposable commodified trinkets of dehumanized banality. Truly discouraging that lobster and steak are cheaper by the pound than Lego and Marvel/Star Wars Action Figures. All this from a life form that requires velvet ropes to make it to the front of a line to pay for these imitations of our world and reality.

Herd is probably too kind a word to describe humanity en mass.
